DIGITAL KITCHEN SCALE
2024
Slim, easy-to-store kitchen scale to reduce shipping costs/ Manufactured / In-house design
Compact by Design — Minimizing Thickness, Maximizing Savings
We were tasked with designing an ultra-slim kitchen scale to reduce shipping costs without sacrificing style or function. With a target thickness under 18mm and a curved faceplate to maintain, we faced tight constraints from the backlight, PCB, and LCD display. Through careful engineering, we achieved a final thickness of just 15mm—saving about USD $1 per unit in shipping.
Material
Stainless steel was chosen for its hygienic properties, as it’s less prone to bacterial contamination compared to other materials. Glass was avoided due to its added weight and thickness.
UIUX
UI/UX was part of the design scope — ease of use was fundamental. Several testing rounds were conducted to debug and refine the experience. I documented feedback for the supplier and oversaw the transition to production.
Packaging
To stay consistent with Greater Goods’ packaging system, the design had to remain under the shipping weight limit while conveying a sense of high value and thoughtful presentation — all within an overall thickness of just 18mm.
