TAIJ - WASH BASIN
Feb 2020
Nominated wash basin concept design / 1:1 working model. Dimension: 72 x 43 x 40 cm. Hand made FRP.
The form is inspired by the strikes in Tai Chi
Based on the 24 Tai Chi styles, each form was developed through the analysis of motion trajectories and applied force.
It looked as if the water disappeared
The drain was concealed. When the water flowed, it appeared to be recycled within the sink, as no outlet or pipe was visible.
Working Model
For the final on-site presentation, I installed a pump and water tank inside the storage space, allowing continuous circulation to demonstrate the sink’s water flow.
Drainage
Since the drain is hidden, water appears to disappear seamlessly into the gap.
After discussing with the craftsman about structural feasibility, we decided to include a compartment to conceal the pipes.
From Mockup to Final Form
The initial mockup, crafted from paper and PU foam, allowed quick exploration of form. The final model refines the concept into a cohesive, functional product.
water outlet test
The working model is made of FRP, a popular material in bathware known for its high durability, strength, and reliable resistance to corrosion.
